ABOUT THE COURSE
Students learn how to speak in accents and dialects common to Great Britain, Ireland and Scotland and apply to monologues and scenes.
Participants will explore a range of iconic dialects spoken by our neighbors from across the pond. By the end of this class, students will learn the foundations to multiple dialects - ranging from Cockney and Received Pronunciation (think fancy British), to Irish and Scottish. Over the course of four weeks, students will learn skills for efficiently analyzing and learning a new dialect quickly, as well as get ample chances to improv and act using these new speech skills.
Class Highlights:
-Acting in accent
-Exploring character through voice and speech
-Skill building for working actors
Tentative Schedule:
Wk1 - Exploring personal speechwork. ‘Fancy’ British vs. Cockney
Wk2 - Scottish
Wk3 - Irish
Wk4 - Application & Performance (monologues, scenes, etc.)
Class size is limited to 12 students. All instruction will take place online; students must have reliable Internet access and the ability to use Zoom (laptop, desktop or mobile app). Class runs for 4 weeks beginning Wednesday, July 1, 2020 and from 6-8pm EDT. Students in other time zones are welcome!
